Final Grade Calculator
Find the score you need on the final exam to reach the grade you want.
To find the score you need on the final, use required = (desired − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, where weight is the final's share of your grade. If you have 88% and the final is worth 20%, reaching 90% needs 98% on the final. Sometimes the required score is above 100%, which means the target is out of reach with the final alone.

About the Final Grade Calculator
This calculator answers a single question: what score do you need on the final exam to finish with the grade you want. It uses your current grade, the percentage of your overall grade that the final is worth, and your target grade. The formula holds your existing work at its current weight and solves for the score on the part that is left. Two honest outcomes matter here. If the math returns a number above 100%, the target is not reachable with the final alone, and the tool says so rather than pretending a 130% exists; it also shows the highest grade a perfect final could still earn you. If the number comes back below zero, you have already secured your target, and even a blank final keeps you there. Make sure the weight you enter is the final's share of the whole course grade, not the number of points the exam is worth, and that your current grade reflects everything graded so far.
Frequently asked questions
What score do I need on my final?+
Enter your current grade, the final's weight, and your target. The formula is required = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight. With 88% now and a 20% final, a 90% target needs 98%.
What if I need more than 100% on the final?+
Then the target is not achievable with the final alone. The calculator says so and shows the highest overall grade a perfect final would give you, so you can set a realistic target.
What does the final's weight mean?+
It is the share of your total course grade that the final exam counts for, such as 20%. Use the percentage from your syllabus, not the number of points the exam is worth.
Can my grade already be locked in before the final?+
Yes. If your current grade is high and the final's weight is small, the required score can come out negative, which means even a 0 on the final keeps you at or above your target.
