Grade Calculator
Turn points earned into a percentage and a letter grade.
To turn points into a grade, divide the points you earned by the points possible and multiply by 100. 43 out of 50 is 86%, which is a B on a standard scale. The percentage maps to a letter using common thresholds: 90 and up is an A, the 80s a B, the 70s a C, the 60s a D, and below 60 an F. Enter your points to see both.

About the Grading Calculator
A grading calculator converts a raw score into a percentage and a letter grade. Divide the points you earned by the total points possible, multiply by 100, and you have the percentage; 43 out of 50 is 86%. The percentage then maps to a letter using a grading scale. The most common US scale puts an A at 90 and above, a B in the 80s, a C in the 70s, a D in the 60s, and an F below 60, usually with plus and minus bands inside each range. Scales are not universal. Some instructors use a straight scale, others curve grades or set different cutoffs, and a few use a 7-point scale where an A starts at 93. This tool uses the standard cutoffs, so if your syllabus differs, treat the letter as a guide and the percentage as the exact figure. That percentage is also the number you would feed into a GPA or a final-grade calculation.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a grade from points?+
Divide points earned by points possible and multiply by 100. 43 ÷ 50 × 100 = 86%. Then map the percentage to a letter using your grading scale.
What percentage is each letter grade?+
On the standard US scale, 90 and up is an A, 80 to 89 a B, 70 to 79 a C, 60 to 69 a D, and below 60 an F, usually with plus and minus bands within each range.
Why doesn't my letter grade match my teacher's?+
Grading scales vary. Some use different cutoffs, a curve, or a 7-point scale where an A begins at 93. The percentage is exact; the letter depends on the scale your instructor uses.
Can I use this for a weighted gradebook?+
This tool converts a single point total to a grade. If your course weights categories like homework and exams differently, work out each category's percentage first, then combine them by their weights.
