Color Season Quiz: Are You a Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter?

Ten daylight checks on your metals, whites, hair, eyes and the colors people compliment, scored across the four seasons, with the scoring key shown in full.

Last updated: October 18, 2026How this is calculated →

This color season quiz asks ten questions you answer in daylight, such as which metal looks best next to your face, which white brightens it and which colors earn compliments, and scores each answer toward Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. Each answer adds 2 points to one season, and the page shows all four totals so you can see how close the others came. It is a styling guide, not a science.

This quiz is for fun and personal styling only. Seasonal color analysis is a styling tradition, not a scientific measurement, and lighting, makeup and photos all change the result. ManyTools wrote these questions and the season summaries; they are not taken from a consultant's kit.

Hold a gold piece and a silver piece next to your face in daylight. Which looks best?

What each result means

Spring

Your answers point to a Spring palette.

In seasonal color analysis, Spring means warm and light: golden or peachy undertones and clear, bright coloring. Your answers kept picking yellow gold, warm ivory, coral and peach. Spring palettes lean on fresh, warm colors such as coral, warm turquoise, golden yellow and camel, and tend to avoid heavy black, which can look tiring next to light, warm coloring.

  • Warm metals and warm whites came out ahead for you.
  • Your coloring reads as light and clear rather than deep or muted.
  • Coral and warm turquoise were your compliment picks.

Hold a coral top and a black top under your chin by a window and compare how your face looks in each; that side-by-side check is the core of a color analysis.

Summer

Your answers point to a Summer palette.

In seasonal color analysis, Summer means cool and soft: pink or blue undertones and gentle, blended coloring. Your answers kept picking silver or rose gold, soft off-white, powder blue and rose. Summer palettes favor muted cool shades such as dusty rose, lavender, soft navy and gray-blue, and tend to find stark black and very bright colors a little harsh.

  • Cool metals and soft whites came out ahead for you.
  • Your coloring reads as low contrast and gently blended.
  • Soft, cool colors drew the most compliments in your answers.

Compare a soft navy top with a black one by a window; if the navy makes your face look clearer, that matches a Summer result.

Autumn

Your answers point to an Autumn palette.

In seasonal color analysis, Autumn means warm and rich: golden, olive or bronze undertones and earthy depth. Your answers kept picking antique gold, cream, rust, olive and terracotta. Autumn palettes lean on warm, muted colors such as olive, rust, mustard, teal and chocolate brown, and often trade black for brown or deep olive.

  • Warm, brushed metals and creamy whites came out ahead for you.
  • Your coloring reads as warm with some depth.
  • Earthy shades drew the most compliments in your answers.

Try a chocolate brown or deep olive in place of black for a day and see whether people comment on how you look.

Winter

Your answers point to a Winter palette.

In seasonal color analysis, Winter means cool and high contrast: blue or neutral-cool undertones with a strong difference between dark and light. Your answers kept picking bright silver, pure white, black, true red and royal blue. Winter palettes favor clear, saturated cool colors such as black, white, emerald, true red and icy pastels, and can make warm, muted shades look dull.

  • Bright cool metals and pure white came out ahead for you.
  • Your hair, eyes and complexion differ sharply in depth, so black and pure white stand out on you.
  • Strong, clear colors drew the most compliments in your answers.

Compare pure white and cream under your chin by a window; if pure white looks cleaner on you, that matches a Winter result.

About the Color Season Quiz

Seasonal color analysis sorts coloring into four groups named after the seasons, using two questions: is your undertone warm or cool, and is your coloring light or deep, clear and bright or soft and muted. Spring is warm and light, Summer cool and soft, Autumn warm and rich, Winter cool and high contrast. The four-season system was popularized by Carole Jackson's 1980 book Color Me Beautiful, and it is a styling tradition rather than a measurement. Answer in daylight by a window, without makeup if you can, because indoor bulbs and foundation both shift what you see. Here is the whole scoring key: every question offers one Spring, one Summer, one Autumn and one Winter answer, each worth 2 points, so any season can reach 20 and the largest of the four totals is your season. If two columns finish level, the page says so and names the earlier season in the calendar year, starting from Spring.

Frequently asked questions

What is seasonal color analysis?+

It is a way of choosing clothing and makeup colors by matching them to your natural coloring. A consultant traditionally drapes fabric swatches under your face in daylight and watches which ones make your complexion look clearer. This quiz asks the same kinds of questions without the fabric.

Can my season change with a tan or hair dye?+

The system treats your season as fixed by your natural coloring, but a tan, dyed hair or a different foundation changes what you see in the mirror. Answer about your natural hair and your everyday complexion for the steadiest result.

Why only four seasons when some systems use twelve or sixteen?+

Later systems split each season into sub-types, such as light, warm or bright Spring, to separate people who sit between two seasons. Ten questions cannot separate twelve groups reliably, so this quiz keeps the original four; if your second season trails by only 2 or 4 points, you probably sit near the border between them.

How does the quiz pick my season?+

It counts. Picking the Autumn answer on a question puts 2 points in the Autumn column, and after ten questions the season with the biggest column is named. Your undertone and contrast are never guessed from a photo; only the answers you click count, and all four columns appear with your result.
