Introvert or Extrovert Quiz: Ten Statements, One Score Out of 40

Rate ten statements about how you act around people and get a score from 0 to 40 on the extraversion scale, with the scoring shown.

Last updated: October 17, 2026How this is calculated →

Rate each of ten statements from very inaccurate to very accurate. Five describe an outgoing style and five a quieter one; each answer scores 0 to 4 toward extraversion, with the quieter statements scored in reverse. The total runs from 0 to 40: 15 or less leans introverted, 16 to 24 is the middle, and 25 or more leans extraverted. Those cut points are this page's own, not population norms.

Ten statements give a rough read of how much you seek company and attention, not a measurement of your personality, and this is not a psychological assessment or a hiring tool. The items are from the public-domain International Personality Item Pool; the score bands and result wording are ManyTools' own.

What each result means

Leans introverted

Your answers lean introverted.

You scored 15 or less out of 40 on ten extraversion statements. In this item set that means you described yourself as quieter, more comfortable out of the spotlight and slower to start conversations with strangers. A low score measures how much you seek company and attention, not how well you talk with one person.

  • Your total of 15 or less sits below the midpoint of 20.
  • Your answers leaned toward the quieter statements more often than the outgoing ones.

Look at which statements pulled your score down most; they show where your preference is strongest.

In the middle

Your answers land in the middle.

You scored between 16 and 24 out of 40, around the scale's midpoint of 20. Your answers mix statements that fit an outgoing style with ones that fit a quieter one, which some people call being an ambivert. A middle score can mean your answers balance out, or that the setting changes them; ten statements cannot tell which.

  • Your total sits within a few points of the midpoint of 20.
  • Outgoing and quieter statements pulled your score about equally.

Retake it thinking of work, then of a weekend with friends, and see whether the score moves.

Leans extraverted

Your answers lean extraverted.

You scored 25 or more out of 40. In this item set that means you described yourself as talkative, at ease in a crowd and happy to start conversations or take the floor. A high score measures how much you seek out company and attention; it says nothing about kindness, confidence in every setting or how good a listener you are.

  • Your total of 25 or more sits above the midpoint of 20.
  • Your answers leaned toward the outgoing statements more often than the quieter ones.

Look at which statements you rated lowest; they mark the situations where you hold back.

About the Introvert or Extrovert Quiz

Introversion and extraversion are two ends of one trait, the one personality research calls extraversion: how much a person seeks out company, talk and attention. The ten statements here are the extraversion markers from the International Personality Item Pool's 50-item Big-Five Factor Markers, a public-domain set, rewritten in the first person. Five are worded toward the outgoing end, such as starting conversations, and five toward the quiet end, such as keeping in the background. For an outgoing statement, very inaccurate scores 0 and very accurate scores 4; for a quiet one the order reverses, so every answer adds to the same scale. Ten answers give a total from 0 to 40, with 20 in the middle. The three bands were set by hand by ManyTools: 0 to 15 and 25 to 40 span 16 points each, and the middle 16 to 24 spans 9, centred on 20. They are not norms from a tested population, so a score near a boundary could fall on either side on another day.

Frequently asked questions

Am I an introvert or an extrovert?+

This quiz places your answers on one scale rather than in a box. A score of 15 or less leans introverted and 25 or more leans extraverted. Scores in the 16 to 24 band sit between the two ends.

What is an ambivert?+

A popular name for someone in the middle of the extraversion scale, outgoing in some settings and quiet in others. It is the middle of the same trait, not a separate type. Here it is the 16 to 24 band.

Where do the statements come from?+

From the International Personality Item Pool (ipip.ori.org), which placed its items in the public domain. These ten are the extraversion markers from its 50-item Big-Five Factor Markers, five keyed toward an outgoing style and five toward a quiet one. The bands and the result wording on this page are ManyTools' own.

Is introversion the same as shyness?+

No. Shyness is unease in social situations; introversion is a lower appetite for company, talk and attention. A person can be outgoing and uneasy, or quiet and completely relaxed. Ten statements cannot tell those apart, so the result describes your answers and nothing more.
