About the Lorem Ipsum Generator
The standard lorem ipsum passage is drawn from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, Book 1, sections 32 and 33, written in 45 BC, with words cut short, shuffled and partly invented so that it reads as Latin-looking text without meaning. This generator builds new text from the distinct words of that standard passage, 63 of them, drawing each one at random so that no word is favored. A sentence is between 6 and 14 words long, starts with a capital, gets one comma near the middle when it runs to 10 words or more, and ends with a full stop; a paragraph holds 4 to 7 sentences. Those lengths are a house choice that keeps the text looking like ordinary prose, not a rule taken from anywhere. Ask for words and you get exactly that many in a single block. What does lorem ipsum mean?+
As written it means nothing, because the words are clipped and out of order. It comes from a passage in Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum about the pursuit of pleasure and pain, and the lorem ipsum fragment is generally traced to dolorem ipsum, pain itself.
Why use placeholder text instead of real copy?+
Readable text pulls the eye toward what it says. Placeholder text has the rhythm of real sentences, with word lengths, spaces and line breaks that look natural, so a reviewer judges the type, spacing and layout instead of the wording. It also makes clear the final copy is still to come.
How much lorem ipsum do I need?+
Match the length of the real content you expect. A blog post layout might want five or six paragraphs, a product card two sentences, and a headline a handful of words. You can generate up to 50 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5,000 words at a time.
