Reverse Text Generator

Type or paste text and get four results: the whole text backwards, the word order reversed, each word spelled backwards, or the line order reversed.

Last updated: October 31, 2026How this is calculated →

A reverse text generator flips the order of what you type. Put text in the box and four results appear with Copy buttons: the whole text backwards, the words in reverse order, each word spelled backwards in place, and the lines in reverse order. The word stressed written backwards is desserts.

This tool is for fun, puzzles and quick text edits. Reversed text is not encryption and hides nothing: anyone can reverse it back in seconds, so never use it to protect a password or private message.

About the Reverse Text Generator

Each of the four results answers a different need. Whole text backwards reads right to left from the last character, so Hello, world. becomes .dlrow ,olleH and a second line moves to the top. Word order reversed keeps every word readable and only changes their sequence, which helps when you are making a word puzzle. Each word spelled backwards leaves the words where they are, so the sentence keeps its shape while the spelling flips. Line order reversed is the practical one: paste a list sorted oldest first and copy it back newest first. Punctuation counts as part of the word it touches, so a comma or full stop moves with that word. In current browsers, emoji, flags and letters with accents count as single characters, following the Unicode rules for what a reader sees as one character, so a reversed smiley stays a smiley. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write text backwards?+

Type or paste it into the box and copy the result labelled Whole text backwards. Every character comes out in the opposite order, including spaces and punctuation, so the first letter you typed ends up last. Right-to-left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew are reversed in the order they are stored, so they can look mirrored on screen.

How do I reverse the order of words in a sentence?+

Use the Word order reversed result. The words stay spelled the right way and only their positions change, so the quick brown fox becomes fox brown quick the. Each line is reversed on its own, so a list of sentences keeps one sentence per line.

Why do some emoji break in other reverse text tools?+

Many emoji are stored as two or more hidden pieces, and a family emoji is several faces joined by invisible joiner characters. Flipping the pieces one by one can split an emoji into loose parts that show as odd symbols. This page groups the pieces into the characters a reader sees before it reverses anything.

Is this the same as upside down or mirror text?+

No. This page changes the order of the characters but keeps each character the right way up. Upside down and mirror text swap letters for look-alike symbols, which is a different effect; screen readers often read those look-alike symbols out as strange characters.

Character rules: Unicode Standard Annex #29, Unicode Text Segmentation, section 3, which sets where one character a reader sees ends and the next begins. The page uses the browser's built-in Intl.Segmenter, which follows those rules; a browser without it falls back to code points, which keeps most emoji whole but can detach an accent.
