A word cloud generator counts how often each word appears in a text and draws the frequent ones larger. This one tallies every word exactly, sizes each by its count and packs the top ones into a cloud you can save as an SVG. The sample text on the page has 73 words; leaving out common words and words under three letters leaves 33, led by cloud and words at 3 each.

About the Word Cloud Generator
Two parts of a word cloud deserve different amounts of trust. The counts here are exact: the text is lowercased, split into words at spaces and punctuation, and every word is tallied, so a word that appears 12 times shows 12 in the table under the cloud. Contractions such as don't stay whole, and a hyphenated phrase like rock-and-roll counts as three words. The picture is a different matter. Each word is sized in a straight line between the least and most frequent words shown, then placed by walking outward from the centre in a spiral until it finds room, largest words first. The space a word takes is estimated from its letter count rather than measured from the font, so the layout is approximate and two short words can sit a little closer or further apart than they would in a design tool. The list of common words that can be left out has 127 entries, mostly articles, pronouns and prepositions. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the most common word missing from my cloud?+
Either it is on the common-words list, which removes words like the and of so the meaningful ones stand out, or it is shorter than the shortest-word setting, which is three letters by default. Untick leave out common words or lower the shortest word to 1 and it comes back. A very long word can also fail to fit a crowded cloud; it still appears in the count table, and the note under the cloud says how many were left out.
Can I use the cloud in a presentation or report?+
Yes. Download SVG saves the cloud as a vector file that stays sharp at any size; any web browser opens it, and SVG is the standard vector format that most design and presentation tools import. Each word is its own text element in the file, so a vector editor lets you move or recolour one word without redrawing the rest.
How many words can it handle?+
You can paste up to 200,000 characters, roughly a short novel's chapter or a few hundred survey answers, and every word in it is counted. The cloud itself shows up to 100 words, 60 by default, because past that point the smallest words become too small to read.
Is a word cloud good for analysing survey responses?+
It is a fast first look at which words recur, not an analysis. It cannot tell that not happy and happy mean opposite things, or that price and cost are the same complaint. Use the exact count table to spot the frequent terms, then read the answers that contain them before drawing a conclusion.
