NYC Paycheck Calculator 2026: Take-Home Pay After City and State Tax

Estimate a New York City paycheck for 2026: federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare, plus New York State and New York City withholding from the state's exact calculation tables.

Last updated: October 16, 2026How this is calculated →

A single New Yorker earning $75,000 a year, paid every two weeks and claiming one allowance, takes home about $2,136.27 a paycheck in 2026. Of the $2,884.62 gross, $131.97 goes to New York State income tax withholding and $100.70 to New York City's, on top of federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare.

This is an estimate of 2026 paycheck withholding for a New York City resident, not a tax return; it is not financial advice, and not tax advice. Federal tax comes from the annual brackets, not the federal withholding tables, so your stub may differ; married means married filing jointly. State and city withholding follow the exact calculation method in the state's 2026 tables and are not estimated above the method's top income range. It leaves out pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) and health premiums, disability and paid family leave contributions, Yonkers tax, credits and additional withholding. Check your pay stub or ask a tax professional about your situation.

Married here means married filing jointly for the federal estimate. Allowances are the New York State and City allowances on your Form IT-2104, the same number used for both.

About the NYC Paycheck Calculator

New York adds two withholdings on top of the federal ones: the state's and the city's. Both come from the state's 2026 withholding tables, and this calculator follows the state's exact calculation method (Method II). For each paycheck it subtracts an allowance (a deduction amount for your pay frequency and filing status, plus a fixed amount for each allowance you claim on Form IT-2104), finds the line where the rest falls, and applies that line's rate and base amount. The city tables are shorter, with rates from 2.05% to 4.25%. Federal income tax is estimated from the annual brackets and the standard deduction rather than the federal withholding tables, so it can differ from your stub. The city line applies to city residents only, not to someone who works in the city and lives elsewhere. Yonkers, disability insurance and paid family leave deductions are not included.

Frequently asked questions

How much is New York City income tax taken from a paycheck?+

It depends on pay and allowances. For a single worker paid $400 a week with three allowances, the state's own worked example comes to $6.11 for the city and $8.01 for the state. At $75,000 a year paid every two weeks with one allowance, it is about $100.70 for the city per paycheck.

What are allowances on Form IT-2104?+

They are the number you claim on New York's withholding certificate. Each one lowers the wages that withholding is figured on by a fixed amount for your pay frequency, $38.50 per allowance on a biweekly paycheck. The same number is used for the state and city lines here.

Why does married show less withholding at the same salary?+

Married status uses a larger deduction allowance and its own rate lines, and the federal estimate here treats married as filing jointly, which roughly doubles the standard deduction.

Is this my actual tax bill?+

No. Withholding is what your employer holds back during the year; your state, city and federal returns set the final figure, and credits, other income and deductions can move it either way.
